We were on the road again this weekend and the Kevin Edward KGV Stadium was our destination. Guisborough Town were sat in 5th position on 17 points (P9, W5, D2, L2), the same amount of points as West, with two games in hand.
West had an early chance in the first half, only 6 minutes had gone when a low cross was collected by Guisborough goalkeeper Robert Dean. The home team were forced into an early change on 26 minutes, Dylan McAvoy coming on for Robbie Cuthbert. On the half our mark, the first chance of the game for Guisborough from Kenzie Harker, which was well saved by Nick Liversedge. Only moments later, Dylan McAvoy received a yellow card for a challenge on Nick Liversedge. Liversedge was soon called upon again, Guisborough’s free-kick was headed towards goal in the 34th minute, but Liversedge was alert again to clear the danger. West survived a scare on the 40 minute mark, as McAvoy hit the bar for Guisborough. In what was a rather uneventful first half, the highlight came when West took the lead, through James Harrison. A 1-0 lead that put West in a great position going into the second half.
Gainsborough made a substitution at the interval as Mustapha Abdullahi replaced Kenzie Harker. On the half mark, West made it two. A great cross from Luke Bailey found James Harrison at the far post who volleyed home, his second of the game. Anthony Bell replaced Alfie Conway on 68 minutes, and two minutes later, West Auckland made it three. Josh Scott played a long ball to Harrison, who smashed it home from 12 yards for his hat-trick. A couple of further substitutions for West, Lewis Ritson replacing Luke Bailey on 74 minutes, and Jermaine Metz coming on for Layton Watts just before 90 minutes. Two minutes into second half injury time, Josh Scott chased a long ball and coolly rounded the Gainsborough goalkeeper to score. An incredible 4-0 win with another clean sheet.
West Auckland Town Manager Gary Forrest gave his thoughts on what was a great performance from all involved.
“Really pleased with the win as a very difficult place to go. Another clean sheet and that’s now 4 from 5 games and only 1 goal conceded in the last 5 games and that’s a solid base. Need to keeps the momentum and got another tough game on Tuesday”
